Watchman’s Room

The Watchman’s Room is available as a monograph published in 2001. The photographs were made during the final decade of the millennium, a time of both technological revolution and fascination with the past. I didn’t start out with any grand theme, but in retrospect, it seems that the work evolved as my own quiet response to the tenor of that period.

The title image depicts an actual room that was set aside for the watchman. But I also think of the book as a room, a space designated for a careful observer. Here are fragments from the external world reframed for a different kind of experience—an invitation for each viewer to peer inside.
