Living Things

Living Things is about the demise of living things—a study of abandoned environments conceived as a metaphor for the aftermath of a nuclear calamity. I completed this series just before I moved to Little Rock, so it is actually part of the early work. Here I continued adding various forms of signage to the existing environments. The verbal phrases are taken out of context from the literature of our nuclear predicament.

The frenzy of the arms race between two world powers may seem distant in memory, but the threat of a disastrous miscalculation was certainly palpable at the time. Now, although the scope of the threat is somewhat reduced, the number of potential players has significantly increased, and the threat to living things is still formidable.
